United States Christian Commission field station
The USCC was a Northern relief agency set up by evangelical ministers and businessmen during the American Civil War. Like its counterpart, the Sanitary Commission, it tended to the bodily needs of sick and wounded soldiers, but it prioritised the spiritual welfare of the troops, distributing religious tracts, organising prayer meetings, and attempting to bring about revivals and conversion throughout the Union armies. It ceased operations in early 1866.
